Experience
1991 – Present Day Freelance Sound Engineer Sound engineer at FOH and Monitor positions. Touring and in house. Experience of a wide range of events from pub to main stage international festival shows. Occasionally my role as sound engineer extends into advancing production specs and dealing with stage crews & production teams of varying experience and competence, to ensure my client can deliver the audience experience sonically and visually. This role has seen me travel as far as South America and Japan, giving me experience of working in, occasionally, quite challenging environments. Artists toured with 1993-1996 – Groupie, UK dates 1993-1996 – Rachels Basement, UK dates supporting Ocean Colour Scene 1996 – Ocean Colour Scene, dep on uk tour dates 1997–2003 – Broadcast, Uk EU and USA tours 1997-2003 – King Adora, UK tours & Festivals. 2003 – 2024 Technical Manager, academy music group Managing venue technical departments in large club venues. Advancing and running live music and club events with promoters and production managers. Staffing events with freelance technicians, based on individual experience & skillsets as appropriate to the scale and nature of the event. Training and developing technicians’ skills. Maintaining equipment and arranging replacement or additional equipment as required for specific events. Notable events I have provided technical support and production management include: 2005 – Massive Attack & Portishead Benefit concert for the 2004 Tsunami victims 2007 – Faithless festival production rehearsals and warmup shows. 2016 to present day – Numerous HRH weekend festivals, each featuring 30+ bands of varying genres and event experience. 2022 – Killer’s stadium tour warm up show 2022 – Prodigy 2 nights returning to live performances. These events in particular required a wide-ranging understanding of event production requirements as well as a diplomatic approach to providing scalable production solutions for artists who usually don’t have to deal with the limitations of medium sized venues while allowing them to provide the arena/stadium experience to the fans who expect it. Unfortunately, due to RAAC concrete being identified in the Sheffield venue roof in September 2023, my position became redundant and AMG let me go as there were no suitable roles for me within the organization. 2023 – Present Day Event Duty Manager, Sheffield University Student’s Union Venue duty management for events held in the Student Union venues, ranging from live music and comedy to club nights. Duties include briefing security, updating box office, liaising with other departments, event technical crew and event promoters to ensure smooth running of events. Ensuring venue facilities are ready and safe for events from load in to end of day building shut down. Along with this I have been involved in the training and development of the Student Union Technical Services Committee, the group of students who operate all technical aspects of events within the student union.
